What are legal requirements and other requirements?
A basic commitment to environmental management is to meet the legal requirements and other requirements of the organization.
Requirements can be defined as needs or expectations implied or obligatory declared as the norm ABNT ISO 14.001:2015.
Legal requirements and other requirements include legal norms that must be complied with legal and other requirements to which the Organization has to fulfill or chooses to keep.
Cover requirements of government agencies and authorities, international, national laws and regulations, State and local, permissions restrictions, licenses or other authorizations, determinations of regulatory agencies and judicial sentences.
May also include agreements with community groups or non-governmental organization, agreements with customers, public authorities, principles or codes of practices, labelling or environmental commitments, and contractual agreements, among others.
A crucial element to the planning of the environmental management system is the knowledge of the requirements, which should be taken into consideration to establish, implement, maintain and continually improve the environmental actions, to define goals and environmental policy.
The Organization shall determine and have access to legal and other requirements related to its environmental aspects, maintaining documented information and determining how it is applied. Is necessary to understand the requirements to apply them in their activities, products and services.
Moreover, it should assess the legal requirements and other requirements often determined and take corrective action when necessary.
The standard ABNT NBR ISO14.001:2015 presents items to be considered in legal requirements and other requirements:
